Our Specialists

Gig Harbor Academy's Specialist Program includes Art, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Technology and Library. Beginning in Preschool, students are exposed to the Specialist Programs at an age appropriate level on a weekly basis. Each specialist instructor is certified in their particular area and are experts in their field.

 
Xinia Agee

Xinia Agee, Spanish Specialist
Born in Limon, Costa Rica, Señora Agee taught both preschool and elementary school for several years in the capital city of San Jose. Xinia was also employed through the Department of Defense at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Xinia has taught Spanish at Gig Harbor Academy since 2008.

 

Aubrey Preston

Aubrey Preston,
Music Specialist

Aubrey Preston has her M.Ed. in Elementary Education. In addition, she has worked as Director of Music Together with Aubrey, educating young children and their caregivers in the many benefits music has to offer. Her life-long study of piano, her experience as a professional ballroom dancer and her recent newfound passion of playing the ukulele has only amplified her love and zest for the art of music. Aubrey knows how music can help students not only be more successful in academics but also with their emotional development. She hopes to share her love of music with all of her students and inspire them to be life-long music enthusiasts.

 

Kari Chavez-Cox

Kari Chavez-Cox,
Physical Education Specialist

Kari Chavez-Cox has a BA in Elementary Education K-8, and endorsements in P-3 Early Childhood Education and 4-12 Psychology from Saint Martin’s University. Her previous eleven years of teaching and substituting experience led her to focus on Physical Education. Coach Chavez understands the importance of providing children with an engaging environment that promotes and inspires positive sportsmanship, healthy choices and physical activity for a lifetime.

 

 


Ana Steel

Ana Steel, Art Specialist
Ana Steel received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, an Instructional 1 K-12 Art Teacher Certification from Philadelphia College of Art, and studied Art History and Humanities for two years in the graduate school at Manhattanville College in Purchase NY. Ana has taught K-12 visual art for more than three decades at private independent schools in Malvern, PA, Greenwich, CT, and Tacoma, WA.

 

Geoffrey Klok

Geoffrey Klok,
Technology Specialist

Geoffrey Klok is a long-time resident of Washington and received his B.S. from the University of Puget Sound in 2002, with a major in Computer Science, minor in Math, and emphasis in Asian Studies. For the past 18 years he has taught music performance and theory on guitar and ukulele in classical, jazz, and contemporary styles throughout the South Sound area. Geoffrey believes that introducing all our youngest students to creativity through engineering and technology prepares them to be future STEM leaders and empowers them with invaluable life skills.
